Groq's architecture, originally introduced as a Tensor Streaming Processor (TSP), was later rebranded as a Language Processing Unit (LPU) to address workloads for large language models, image classification, and predictive analysis. In December 2025, Nvidia and Groq announced an agreement valued at approximately $20 billion to license Groq's AI inference technology, with Groq continuing to operate as an independent company. It is headquartered in Mountain View, California.
