Epic Games, Inc. is an American video game and software developer and publisher based in Cary, North Carolina. The company was founded in 1991 by Tim Sweeney. Epic Games developed the Unreal Engine, a commercially available game engine that also powers its internally developed video games, such as Fortnite and the Unreal and Gears of War series. GitLab Inc. is an American company that operates and develops GitLab, an open-core DevOps software package used to develop, secure, and operate software. The platform provides a distributed version control system based on Git, integrated with features for access control, issue tracking, and project management. The open-source project was originally created by developers Dmytro Zaporozhets and Sytse Sijbrandij. The company was established in 2014 to continue the project's development, which began in 2011. GitLab Inc. is considered to be the first partly Ukrainian unicorn and reports having over 30 million registered users and more than 1 million active licensed users. The company has a distributed team with members in over 60 countries.
